Problems that can be addressed with chemical peels include: fine lines and wrinkles; a blotchy complexion; and skin that has lost its youthful shine and smoothness. Chemical peels performed in Dr. Natale’s office include the alpha-hydroxy glycolic acid peels to restore shine and smoothness, Obagi Blue Peel and TCA (Trichloracetic Acid) peels for fine lines and wrinkles and blotchy complexions.
The glycolic peel is called the “lunch hour” peel in that after a five-minute application, it is washed off and make-up reapplied with no recovery time involved. These treatments require a series of peels to remove the thin layers of dead cells from the skin’s surface restoring a smoother, shinier complexion. These treatments are the equivalent of microdermabrasion.
The Obagi Blue Peel is a weak trichloracetic acid peel suitable for any skin type. Four coats are applied during one treatment session. Recovery takes place within a week to ten days and will not limit normal activities. Achieving the optimal result from these peels may require multiple treatments. Stronger TCA peels are suitable for lighter complexions and will do the most to remove or diminish fine lines and wrinkles and to even a blotchy complexion. Depending upon the strength of the peeling solution, recovery may take a few weeks involving some downtime from normal activities.
